Six Ways to Make Your Bathroom Greener – including Ditching Plastic!

Did you know that a whopping 91% of plastic isn’t recycled? Or that a single plastic bottle takes over 400 years to degrade? Evidence suggests that in the bid to reduce plastic pollution, bathroom items are frequently overlooked for re-cycling.

Greener Flushing: This water-saving WC by Villeroy & Boch uses only 3 to 4.5 litres of water and can be incorporated into any bathroom.

As a leading supplier of high quality bathrooms in Bucks and Berks area, we take our responsibility to protect the environment seriously. Alongside supplying and installing the latest generation of water and energy-saving WCs and shower systems, we’re proud to pass on ways to help customers reduce their environmental impact.

Sustainable Showering: Hansgrohe Rainmaker Select Overhead shower delivers the best showering experience and uses 60% less water than conventional showers.

Here are our designer’s top tips on creating a leaner, greener, environmentally-friendly – but still luxurious - bathroom:

  1. Water-saving WCs – Bathroom designer Villeroy & Boch are well known for pushing bathroom innovation to the next level and don’t disappoint with their new collection of direct-flush WCs. As well as offering superior performance by providing the perfect water flow, they’re extremely water-efficient with a flushing volume of only 3 to 4.5 litres - so you save water every time you flush.

  2. The modern rimless design also delivers an unrivalled level of cleanliness and hygiene, which means less time cleaning the loo too! To find out more, call into our Windsor or Amersham showrooms.

  3. Water-saving Showers – We only supply the best shower systems and they don’t get better, or more eco-friendly, than Hansgrohe showers.

  4. Hansgrohe’s unique EcoSmart technology means their showers and mixers use up to 60% less water than other products. The technology comprises an advanced flow limiter and jets infused with air, reducing the water flow without compromising the amazing, invigorating feel of the shower. Check out Hansgrohe’s best-selling Rainmaker Select and Raindance showers featuring EcoSmart technology in store to see for yourself.

  5. Recycle Bathroom Plastic – The average family throws away 40 kilogrammes of plastic a year. Plastic bathroom bottles often go unnoticed, so instead of going in the recycling bin, they end up buried with other domestic waste in landfill. There are lots of bathroom items you can recycle, including plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles, shower gel containers and liquid soap dispensers. Plastic bottles containing products such as bleach and cream cleaner can go in your home’s recycling bin too.

  6. Save Bathroom Water – Showers use much less water than a bath, particularly if you install a water-saving shower head from Hansgrohe, or similar. Try to get into the habit of not leaving taps running while washing hands, brushing teeth or shaving. You can also save water by turning the shower off while applying shampoo or conditioner.

  7. Ditch the Suds – Today’s shower gels, shampoos and soaps make lots of foam, which is desirable because they make us feel ‘zingy’ clean. However, more foam means more rinsing, which means more water wastage. Natural based products produce less foam, are good for the environment, and leave you just as clean - we promise! Try Neal’s Yard shower gels and shampoos which are derived from organic, natural ingredients and smell divine.

  8. Environmentally-friendly Bathroom Design – If you’re refurbishing or installing a new bathroom, start from the ground up by ensuring environmentally-friendly bathroom appliances and materials are built into your design.

  9. At European Bathrooms, we have over 25 years’ experience of designing, supplying and installing prestigious bathroom suites, shower rooms and cloakrooms, and have helped many clients create the perfect eco-friendly bathroom to complement their lifestyle. We also supply an extensive range of eco-friendly bathroom suites and appliances, from the best low-water WC and water-saving showers, through to water-saving mixer taps and energy-efficient radiators.
