The Pros and Cons of Renovating or Replacing Your Bathroom

With 2017 just around the corner, you may have started thinking about home improvements you’d like to tackle next year.

Like kitchens, bathrooms are high traffic areas that need attention every few years to stay looking their best. But which is the best route – refurbish or replace?

At European Bathrooms, we’ve channelled our more than 70 years’ collective experience in luxury bathroom design, supply, and installation to help you weigh up the pros and cons of replacing or renovating your bathroom.

Benefits of Renovating Your Bathroom

Less cost – Replacing tired, lime-scaled brassware, such as taps and mixers, or worn or dated bathroom fixtures, such as bath panels and shower screens, are quick-wins that - providing you budget wisely - are likely to amount to less than installing a new bathroom suite.

What to Look for When Buying a New Shower

Is your shower more splutter than splendid? Whether you’re looking for a shower to gently warm and wake you up on these dark autumn mornings or a stimulating shower to wash away the stresses of the day, here’s everything you need to know to find your perfect shower.

Crosswater’s latest Dial Shower system uses push button technology to control the water flow and temperature.

Check your water pressure – If you have a type of shower in mind, it’s important to check that your home’s water pressure is sufficient to power the shower. If it’s too low, then you may need to buy a shower head or pump specifically designed to improve the flow.  You can test the water using a pressure gauge or if you’re unsure then it’s best to call in a professional. We can do this as part of our home bathroom design service.

Check your water and heating system – To optimise the flow of your shower it’s important to identify the type of water and heating system you have. UK homes usually have one of three systems: Gravity-fed (vented system), Unvented system and Combination boiler.

The gravity-fed system is the most common and comprises a cold water tank in the loft which usually sits above a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard below. The boiler heats the water in the cylinder and directs the hot water to the shower, bath and taps.

How to Maximise Space in Smaller Bathrooms

Craving more space in your master, guest or loft bathroom? Having a small bathroom doesn’t mean you have to compromise on having a ‘wow’ bathroom.

At European Bathrooms, we have over 20 years’ experience in making clients’ dream bathrooms a reality. Here are four ways to transform your smallest room into the biggest room:

Plan your small bathroom layout – Careful planning is vital when it comes to creating a bathroom that looks amazing and maximises every inch of available space.

Firstly note down the measurements of walls, ceiling height, doors, windows and any recesses, along with the location of plumbing and electrical fittings, such as water pipes, waste connectors, radiators and extractor fans or wall vent systems.

Then log on to our free 3D design tool to start planning your ideal bathroom layout.

To make the most of a compact bathroom, it’s important to be aware of the minimum clearances required to ensure all elements of your bathroom fit and function as they should. For example, to optimise floor space it’s recommended to allow sufficient space from the front edge of units, such as your bath, toilet and wash basin, to any opposite unit.

Five Ways to Bring Summer into Your Bathroom

British summertime is here! Whether you’re planning a staycation by the sea or a
luxury break abroad, why not keep those ‘feel-good’ holiday vibes going with some
summer styling for your bathroom?

Here are five ways to let the sunshine in:

Upgrade your shower – Nothing refreshes on a hot day quite like a luxury shower. If your shower is more ‘damp squib’ than ‘dynamic’, consider investing in a high quality overhead or side shower.

Our Hansgrohe and Crosswater ranges comprise an array of cutting-edge showers, including models which switch the water jets from refreshing rainfall to vigorous massage at the touch of a button.

Make it rain! (pictured: Hansgrohe Rainmaker Select)

Go large! – European hotel bathrooms often incorporate large rectangular neutral wall and floor tiles creating a clean, contemporary backdrop.

Bathroom Trends 2016 – All Things Bright and Beautiful

Thinking about refreshing your bathroom? This year’s bathrooms definitely have a spring in their step. From bold bright blues to romantic rose tones, the latest bathroom suites, furniture and accessories come in a range of sumptuous colours.

We’ve put together some fab ways to introduce colour to your bathroom design. If you’re looking for more inspiration, call into one of our stylish showrooms.

Candy Coloured Wash Basins

Villeroy & Boch are renowned for their superior ceramics and sophisticated bathroom designs. This spring they’ve teamed up with acclaimed German-Danish interior designer Gesa Hansen to create a collection of exquisitely coloured wash basins.

Inspired by the seasonal changes in Paris, the designer has developed the Artis surface-mounted washbasin in a kaleidoscope of sweet new shades. There are 12 colours to choose from, including variations of green, yellow, rose and blue. The intense exterior colour of the basin is off set beautifully by a bright white interior.

This pop of colour is ideal for bringing a family bathroom to life or creating a fresh focal point in a guest bathroom.

What to Look for When Buying a New Bathroom

Looking to create the perfect bathroom for your home? Our bathroom buying tips will help you plan your ideal bathroom sanctuary. Just add bubbles…

Plan your bathroom space – On graph paper or using our free online bathroom design tool draw a plan of your current bathroom layout. Alongside your bath/shower, wash basin and toilet, include aspects such as doors, windows, radiators and, where visible, plumbing, electrics and waste pipes.
If you’re keen to change the layout or add a new bathroom feature, such as a shower enclosure, this will show what space is available. If the design appears cramped, consider re-locating bathroom fittings to optimise space, or if your budget allows, look at ways of extending your bathroom.

Burgbad’s Eqio bathroom range is as elegant as it is practical.

Many people like the idea of adding a separate shower but this can sometimes squeeze the space too far, resulting in a small unpractical shower and small bath. In this case, we recommend opting for one or the other or exploring alternatives such as adding an en-suite to the master bedroom.

Top Five Bathroom Design Ideas - Five important design considerations when planning a new bathroom

It’s exciting creating a new bathroom but whether you’re revamping your bathroom or stripping out and starting again, it’s important to spend time planning your bathroom space.
To help create your ideal bathroom retreat, here are our top five design tips.

Look at your layout – First things first, look at your layout. What do you want from your new bathroom? More space to move around? Stylish storage solutions to de-clutter? As well as taking careful measurements, make a list of your bathroom wants and needs.

If you’re keen to open up a small bathroom, wall-mounted basins and WCs are ideal for creating more floor space. Or if you’re considering a complete re-fit, think about ways to enhance your environment. For example, installing a shower enclosure and a bath, or replacing a fitted bath with a free-standing one. As well as giving you more floor space, a free-standing bath adds a splash of luxury.

What’s new at European Bathrooms? Chapter 2, The importance of your designer.

THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR DESIGNER by Stoke Ripley

Bathroom design like most things has changed dramatically over the years. Long gone are the simple sanitised utility bathrooms of yesteryear and in are dramatic stylish statement rooms of luxury. The bathroom is the last place in the house where you can truly indulge yourself, relax, unwind and get away from the worries and troubles on the other side of that locked door.

It’s because of these everyday pressures and demands that our own space is becoming increasingly important. Which is why the design process has become so paramount. Good design can have a positive influence on how we live, we’re not talking about complete extravagance, simply the creation of something beautiful and functional that brings you and your family pleasure in your everyday life.

What's new at European Bathrooms? Chapter 1, The Brand.

THE BRAND by Stoke Ripley

When creating a brand about great design and designers why not start with what some call the ‘principle law of natural design’.

The famous Fibonacci or Golden Spiral has captivated mathematicians, designers and artists for centuries. It’s ubiquity and astounding functionality in nature suggests it’s importance as a fundamental characteristic of the universe.

In short, found in most of our surrounding world, this satisfying shape has been described as the basic principle of all beauty and completeness.

From petals on a leaf, to bones in our own body, to the Parthenon in Athens. Even the balance of our facial features that we recognise as beauty. The mathematical sequence that creates this essential spiral can be found everywhere.
